Abstract

It is known that the female spirit Ajysyt, also mentioned with different names such as Ayizit, Aysit (Ajsyt), Ayiğsit, Ayihisit, Ayihit, Ayisat, Iyehsit (Ijahsit) or Inehsit, appears in different roles and as opposite of one another in Yakuts and other Turkic communities. It is noteworthy that Aysit stands as two opposing entities in the Turkic mythology, which does not differ much in terms of time and distance. This study, which focuses on how and why this difference occurs, reveals the reason for this difference in a linguistic and semantic consistency.
